We were contacted about Alice from a woman who rescued her. She found her in Las Juntas and thought maybe she was thrown out of or hit by a car because she could barely move and couldn’t walk at all. She was taken to our vet where she stayed a few days. We then took her to a surgeon in PV to have full body radiographs done to determine if she had any fractures. Thankfully, she did not! The surgeon said she could’ve been hit with something on her back or neck and had spinal shock, but he expected a full recovery. Within a few days after her xrays, she was quickly gaining strength. The vet said the inability to walk was actually from having erlichea, which she is fully cleared of. It is very common here and most dogs have it at the time of rescue from not being on tick preventatives. It is also easily treated with antibiotics. One week later she was walking and running around with all the other puppies in Puppyland!
Alice is quite active and higher energy. For this reason we do not recommend she live in an apartment or condo. She’s great around all dogs and absolutely loves people. She has not been cat tested but we prefer she go to a home with no cats. She is now fully ready for adoption!
