🐾Our Strong‑Willed Sanctuary Dog

Barkley has been with us since March 2024, after being reported as lost or abandoned and found outside a grocery store in San Jose. At first, we thought he was very old and possibly blind, as his eyes were a striking blue. He also appeared to have a back‑end or hip injury, making his walk a bit unstable.

After just a week in our care, Barkley surprised us — his eyes cleared up and his energy returned. While he does fine around some dogs, Barkley shows more of an alpha personality. He has bonded well with two of our other long‑term residents, Solovino and Sasha, and enjoys spending time with them.

Because of his temperament, Barkley is not a dog who can be leashed or adopted. Instead, he will remain a cherished sanctuary dog, living out his life here at the shelter where he can be safe, respected, and cared for.

Barkley is a reminder that every dog deserves compassion, even those who need a lifetime of sanctuary rather than adoption.
