Bones walked himself right to someone’s home in Puerto Vallarta. The man was getting ready for work but knew he couldn’t leave him. He protected him then took him to a vet. We saw his post on facebook as needing help, so of course we said yes! He was at our shelter where he received some much needed rest, proper nutrition and lots of love. He loves being around other dogs and is a happy boy who is very affectionate with people.
Bones flew to a prospective adopter in Seattle in early December. After arriving, he seemed to have a limp with a front leg, which we did not notice while in our care, nor did our vet. We authorized for him to have a vet visit and xrays. The vet said he has some osteochondrosis in both front shoulders and an elbow. Most likely due to how rapidly he has grown since we received him. He was given a short round of anti-inflammatories and was on a joint supplement. We don’t know if he will need the supplements long term but they could be quite helpful. He was evaluated here by our vet in Mexico who agreed, surgery is the best option. He has extra cartilage flaps on both shoulders so needs those scoped to remove the excess. If it’s not done, he will have issues with arthritis when he’s older. Of course with us, just like previously, he shows no symptoms or pain , but it’s very warm here! We think the colder weather in Seattle brought out the limping.
While Bones is not technically a special needs dog, we would be willing to adopt him as special needs fee for a prospective adopter who wants to have the surgery done with their own vet. The only adoption fee would be covering the flight fee. At this time the surgery has not been done due to the expense to us. He’s truly one of the nicest, most social dogs we have. He is potty and leash trained and would love his own home. He has so much love to give!
