DJ came from a litter of 8 puppies known as the Coilbri litter. They were found hiding under tree brush while we were searching for another litter of 3 pups someone had reported to us. They were located right outside of the Colibri neighborhood on the east side of Bucerias. Found at only 6 weeks old, they were of course very nervous. They have all opened up now and are your typical playful puppies. They can be a little timid to new people and things but once they know they are safe, they are back to being puppies. Their mom was around the area where they were found but she was impossible to catch. We went back many times to try and gain her trust but she seems to have disappeared. She was around 35-40lbs. We do not know their dad(s), but predict these pups will be medium sized(40-50lbs).

DJ really is adorable but he’s also a very timid dog. Of course that could change outside of a shelter. He needs someone who will be very patient with him, possibly he could also benefit from some training. He has always been on the nervous side since they were rescued. We think it’s best if there aren’t young kids in the home as they can be unpredictable and that’s not good for him. We’d hate to see him live his life out in the shelter but we also know he will be harder to adopt out because of his nervousness. The great news is with time, he does warm up and trust. And he does really well around other dogs. He’d benefit from having another dog in the home to learn from, have a buddy and follow their lead.
