esme
Female - Dutch Shepherd
Age: May 2024 | Weight:18kg
*AVAILABLE IN OTTAWA*
Esme is currently in a 4-week board and train with Shield K9 of Ottawa/Beds for Tails Kennels. She is available for adoption and can be applied for now. They were gracious enough to donate the board/train to our rescue. An offer we couldn’t pass up! Esme is busy learning her commands: sit, down, stay, place. She is also being trained with recall, manners, and loose-leash walking. She is a beautiful and smart girl.
We were alerted about Esme from someone who saw her wandering in a horrible state. She was found in Valle Esmeralda, an area of San Vicente, Nayarit. She immediately went to our vet. She was covered in ticks, tested positive for erlichea, was very underweight and severely anemic. So anemic in fact, the first week of rescue she needed to be monitored to determine if she might need a blood transfusion. After about 5 days in our care, with food, rest and love, she really started perking up! She has a bit of a long road ahead of her but we can’t wait to see the transformation.
Esme will need a very specific adopter and home. She is not a dog who can sit around and be lazy all day. Her breed requires someone knowledgable and active. Dutch shepherds are confident, athletic and intelligent. She needs to be both mentally and physically stimulated. For these reasons she won’t fit into just any home. Breed experience is preferred.
