Guava is available in Calgary! She is currently with a foster family.
She was posted on a Bucerias facebook group as being abandoned and very underweight. We commented saying we would accept her into our care. We then found out she was actually in La Penita, north of Bucerias. We were able to contact a rescuer in that area who drove her to us. She did have a family who willingly relinquished her. They were in the process of moving and would leave several days at a time and leave her there with no food and water. She was covered in ticks, underweight and had swollen lymph nodes in her throat. She had a cycle of antibiotics and quickly improved. She will stay on the smaller side but is not in cabin sized; way too long. She might have some dachshund in her. We do expect her to gain some weight but do not expect her to be over 20lbs. She is a very loving girl with the biggest eyes that will melt your heart. She does really well around the other dogs. You can tell this girl was very neglected as she soaks up any love you will give her and she loves to be held.
Guava traveled to Calgary, AB mid April for a potential adoption. Unfortunately, the couples other dog is not accepting her. Guava is great but the their dog has become a bit jealous and aggressive. They said she is potty trained as long as you take her out often. She is still getting used to a collar and leash but things are going well. She loves being outside, is very sweet & cuddly and has a very goofy/rambunctious side. They do have a cat and she’s ok but their cat is also used to dogs. The foster did recommend maybe a calmer cat though, as theirs is a bit active. We’d love this girl to find her forever family ASAP so she doesn’t get too settled. She absolutely was a favorite of everyone at the shelter. Very well behaved and around many dogs of all sizes. It in not required for her to go to a home with another dog. Likely she would love all the attention for herself!
