🐾 Our Resilient Mama

Mama Black has been with us since July 2020, after living as a stray in Puerto Vallarta. She was once inseparable from her companion Jed, another street dog who has since crossed the Rainbow Bridge. Their bond was deep, and Mama carried that devotion with her when she joined our shelter family.

Now a senior, Mama is enjoying her retirement at the shelter — a life far better than the streets. She is not a dog we will adopt out, as she thrives in her freedom here, spending her days watching over Puppyland like a true matriarch.

In late summer of 2023, fate intervened when Mama somehow ended up away from the shelter. Whether taken or lost, she was found injured, crossing the busy 200 highway by one of our volunteers. That chance encounter saved her life. Mama had suffered a severe injury that required the amputation of one of her front legs. Despite the loss, she has adapted incredibly well, moving forward with strength and grace.

Mama Black will remain a cherished sanctuary dog, living out her life with us, surrounded by love, freedom, and the dignity she deserves. She is a symbol of resilience and the enduring spirit of senior dogs.
