Age: April 2023 | Weight: 32kg

Reduced/special needs adopt fee; flight cost only

Melo was reported on a Thursday night in Centro Bucerias. He had blood running out of his nose and wounds on his body. We were able to find transport for him to our emergency/after hours vet where he stayed the night. He had erlichea, very low platelets, which cause his blood to be like water. Thankfully it’s a common, easily treatable condition with antibiotics.

Many people town know this dog from hanging around in town and on the beach. The owners were located. They claimed he never wanted to be tied up and was always on the run. We offered to provide the antibiotics if they could administer but they asked us to find him a new home. In our care, he is out free range with many dogs. He seems relatively quiet and very sweet. He is great with other dogs and shows no aggression or reactivity at all. He would make a wonderful companion! He is available for adoption. It’s too hot in Mexico over the summer for this sweet boy. Please help us find him a home in a cooler environment.

Melo is taking glucosamine supplements and currently takes Rimadyl daily. Our vet has recommended he take both for his lifetime, unless he has surgery and another vet recommends differently. We noticed he had a minor limp so xrays were taken. He has one leg slightly shorter than the other. He will likely end up with hip dysplasia as he ages. He could have optional surgery, but as a rescue, we can’t afford that and everthing is currently being managed with the meds/supplements. He currently is not limping and is a happy, playful guy. If he goes to a climate that’s too cold, it might be noticeable or potentially cause him more issues. He can’t live in an apartment or condo. We will require a fenced in back yard or large property, at minimum. He can’t be in small, enclosed spaces but also does require adequate exercise.
